Our Home in the U.K.

CherryTree Cottage

This is our new home in England. It's in a nice village about 5 miles down a country lane off the main road south of Yeovil in Dorset County. There's a bakery down the street, a post office an old (hundreds of years old) church, a golf course and lots of paddocks and bridlepaths. On our drive down the lane off the main road we pass a big lake that has a marina and lots of sailboats, a goose and duck farm, a dairy farm and a nursery. We're about 40 miles north of the coast (English Channel), it takes about an hour to get to Stonehenge, and is about 2 1/2 hours to London...

I have been going to London for the day about once per week this past month for training, but in the future I'll go there about once a month for business, which I think is cool. I had spoken with people here who would say, " Oh, I have to go to London tomorrow...", now I get to say it!

We have a nice long weekend and I'm trying to get the harley ready for it's inspection tomorrow. We're still settling in and I still have work to do in the garage as well as helping Rhonda organize all our other storage. We've got a trip to Paris planned for next month, we'll take a train from London and spend 3 nights there, in the Louvre district.

On a darker note, most of you already know that my grandmother passed this week, she was 91 years old. She went peacefully in her sleep and her suffering was kept to a minimum, for which we are grateful. She had a long and happy life, and although I'll miss her, I'm thankful for all the wonderful years she was there for us. I'm really glad she didn't have to suffer and that we got a chance to visit her last Thanksgiving, and that she and Rhonda got to meet before we left. She was very bright and active then, and thought that Rhonda was really sweet.

God bless you, Grandma!

She was very bright and active then, and thought that Rhonda was really sweet, as do the rest of my family. We loved her very much and will miss her. She always had something nice to say about everybody, and was one of the most kind and gentle people I've every known.

Now THAT's bacon !

Bacon.gif

Did you say you want four slices of bacon?!

This may be the best thing the U.K. has going for it. I almost fainted in the grocery store when I say these babies. Then I got weak in the knees when I saw they were only a little more than 2 quid for a pound. That's about half of what they charge for the meat-streaked fat in the US. Oh, is it good? Well, these were smoked and really, really fresh...you probably wouldn't like them.
Okay, so we've finally gotten moved into our new home. I promise some pictures of it soon, it's just that we aren't completely finished arranging (they say "sorting" here) things yet and the Spring is dying to get sprung but hasn't quite yet, so you'll just have to wait a little bit more......

We just got connected with internet at our house, they make you wait for ten days after you sign up before turning on your service. I'm sure I paid for those ten days, however. Try to set up a wireless Apple network in your home on a service who sends a free USB modem when you sign up. Oh, $ure, $ome clever folk$ have $ome workaround$ but $ee if you can without $ome new electronic$ and $ome frequent call$ to cu$tomer $ervice! Nobody out here in the boondoggles speaks "macintosh", but I got it done anyway.

So I apologize to all for the gap in communication. Several of you have sent very thoughtful cards wishing us well in our new home and we really appreciate them, thank you very much. I'm always surprised at how nice it feels to get cards and letters with pictures, not to mention the prayers we know are offered on our behalf, thank you all. I hope that you all appreciate these articles and the photos on the site. You are under no obligation to reply but please feel free to leave comments anytime!

It's late and I've run out of steam so I'll say bye for now! More soon...
